Pune, 25th May 2021: The work for the water pipeline in Sahakar Nagar two in the city is hitting the power supply system of MSEDCL. Twice on Monday, the power consumers in Sahakarnagar suffered unnecessarily due to a one and half to two hours power outage.

It is learned that Aranyeshwar 22 kV high voltage power line from the Dattawadi substation under the Parvati division supplies power to about 11,000 customers in Sahakar Nagar one and two, Tulshibagwale colony, Madiwale colony etc.

The excavation was underway by a JCB machine for a water pipeline adjacent to this underground power line, the instructions of MSEDCL employees were ignored as the employees of the concerned contractors broke the underground channel near Ganesh Mandir in an excavation carried out at 5 pm on Sunday. As a result, the power supply was cut off for about an hour and a half. The alternative power supply was immediately arranged by MSEDCL and the broken line was repaired.

If this was not enough already, a large tree was cut down by JCB at Swanand Chowk around 11 am on Monday. However, due to lack of proper precautions, the tree fell on six pole structures of MSEDCL and the power supply to six small power stations was cut off. Hence, the power supply to about 1500 customers in Sahakarnagar was cut off for two hours. MSEDCL had to bear the financial burden of repairs, loss of electricity sales and unwarranted consumer anger due to breakage of underground power lines during excavation, MSEDCL officials said.

They further informed that a complaint is being lodged with the police station regarding the same. Also, many professionals are working from home due to Corona’s curfew as well as students’ online exams are underway. However, due to these interruptions, power consumers faced difficulties.
