Pune, 13th February 2025: Two construction workers sustained injuries after being struck by pellets fired from an air gun in Susgaon on Monday evening. The police arrested a 37-year-old engineer from a neighboring residential complex in connection with the incident.

According to Bavdhan police, the incident took place around 4 p.m. when the workers were on the eighth floor of an under-construction building. “One worker suffered a stomach injury, while the other was hit in the back. One of them was discharged after receiving first aid, while the other remains under medical observation,” said Senior Inspector Anil Vibhute.

Following an investigation, the police arrested Kalpesh Baviskar, a resident of Parklane-Urbanjoy Society in Susgaon, on Tuesday. He has been booked under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for an attempt to commit culpable homicide. “The court has remanded him to police custody for two days,” Vibhute added.

The injured workers initially did not realize what had caused their injuries. “They only became aware of the pellet wounds after visiting a nearby hospital. We launched an investigation upon receiving information from the hospital and began tracing the source of the gunfire,” Vibhute explained.

Officers conducted searches in the neighboring residential complex and discovered an air gun in Baviskar’s eighth-floor apartment. “During questioning, he admitted to firing two pellets but claimed he was shooting into the air and was unaware that anyone had been hit,” Vibhute said.

The police revealed that Baviskar had purchased the air gun for ₹18,000 as a recreational item. “Since air guns do not require a license, he was able to acquire it legally,” the officer stated. The police have since seized the weapon, and further investigations are underway.
