Pune: Engineer Arrested for Obscene Act on MSRTC Bus After Actress Records Incident
Pune, 10th March 2025: A 41-year-old engineer from Pune was arrested by the Pune Rural Police for allegedly engaging in an obscene act while staring at a 23-year-old actress on a Pune-bound MSRTC bus. The incident took place late Wednesday night, and the accused was tracked down after an extensive investigation.
According to the police, the woman, who works as an actress, was traveling from Surur near Wai to Katraj when the suspect, identified as Kamalesh Shirsath, boarded the bus at Shirwal. “The woman stated in her complaint that the man sat across the aisle from her and began masturbating while looking directly at her,” said Inspector Rajesh Gawali of Rajgad Police Station.
Reacting quickly, the actress discreetly recorded the act on her phone and filed a complaint the following day. However, identifying the suspect proved challenging, as he had purchased his ticket with cash, leaving no digital trail.
“We reviewed footage from over 70 CCTV cameras at various locations, including eateries in Khed Shivapur, Katraj, and Shirwal. This helped us track the suspect to his residence in Ambegaon Khurd, Pune,” Inspector Gawali explained.
Shirsath, an engineer employed at a private firm in Shirwal, was arrested on Saturday. He has been booked under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for an act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
The police have urged commuters to report such incidents immediately, emphasizing that swift action will be taken against offenders.
