Model Colony, 6th August 2025: A probe has been initiated into the disappearance of several high-value items from the official residence of the Pune Municipal Commissioner before the new incumbent, Naval Kishore Ram, moved in. Following reports of missing chandeliers, air conditioners, LED lights, and other furniture and fittings, PMC officials have been asked to submit a detailed inventory of the bungalow.

The irregularities came to light after a ₹20 lakh tender was floated to purchase new items for the bungalow. When asked about the missing items, Commissioner Ram said, “I don’t know what was here before me,” but assured that an enquiry will be conducted to ascertain the facts and identify lapses.

Officials suspect that some of the items may have been removed without proper handover. The PMC’s General Administration Department is now verifying past records to determine whether the missing goods were recorded and accounted for during the transition.

Several expensive items including air conditioners, LED TVs, chandeliers, and antique lamps have reportedly gone missing from the official bungalow of the Pune Municipal Commissioner in Model Colony. Yet, no police complaint or internal FIR has been registered by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), raising serious questions about transparency and internal accountability.

Located near Chittaranjan Vatika, the spacious bungalow was previously occupied by retired Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale. He vacated the residence at the end of June. The missing items were discovered as preparations began for the arrival of the newly appointed Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram.

According to internal sources, the list of missing items includes four air conditioners, chandeliers, framed photographs of Pune’s historic landmarks, old brass and bronze lamps, two large LED TVs, a coffee maker, a walkie-talkie set, remote bells, a modular kitchen chimney, and a water purifier. In response, the PMC has already procured some replacements from the electricity department and has floated a tender worth ₹20 lakh to replenish the remaining items.

Despite the disappearance of high-value municipal property, officials have reportedly maintained secrecy, and no formal action has been initiated. When asked, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said, “I do not know what materials were here before I moved in. We brought many items with us. The previous commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale lived here before me. We will examine who is responsible for this and an inquiry will be conducted. Once the facts are clear, action will be taken.”

As the PMC prepares for an internal probe, the silence around the missing items continues to raise eyebrows. Whether this will lead to disciplinary action or remain buried under bureaucratic secrecy remains to be seen.
