Pune, 6th August 2025: A second-year student from BJ Government Medical College allegedly died by suicide, leaving behind a note that points to long-standing mental health struggles.

According to officials from the Bund Garden police station, the 21-year-old female student was found hanging in a hostel room. A suicide note recovered from the scene reportedly reads: “I want to study, but I can’t. Forgive me.”

The student, Jyoti Krishnakumar Meena, originally from Rajasthan, had been living in Pune for her medical studies.

Police said the deceased had been undergoing psychiatric treatment and was on prescribed medication. Her battle with mental illness dated back to her school years — reportedly since she was in Class 8.

The incident has once again raised concerns about mental health support for students in highly demanding academic environments. Authorities at BJ Medical College have yet to issue an official statement.
