Pune, 10th March 2022: Nearly 9 thousand people in Kondhwa and Pisoli areas had to endure the power supply cut off for about eight hours on Wednesday due to the breakage of two high voltage power lines of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) in the excavation work being carried out by JCB on the side of the road at Yewalewadi. Due to the shutdown of the entire system, an alternative power supply could not be provided during this span.

MSEDCL’s Switching Station in the Kondhwa area is supplied through two underground power lines from the high-pressure substation of Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (Mahatransco). However, during the excavation work being carried out by JCB for widening the roadside near the Yewalewadi arch, both the underground power lines were cut off at around 11 am on Wednesday. As soon as it was noticed that the power lines were broken, the concerned JCB employees filled the power lines with soil and ran away.

However, due to the disconnection of both the power lines, the power supply of the Switching Station was completely cut off. As a result, the power supply to about 9000 customers in Kondhwa Khurd, Kondhwa Budruk and Pisoli area was cut off.

After getting information, MSEDCL engineers and staff immediately started looking for faults. It was found that both the power lines were broken during the excavation by the JCB.

The repair work of one power line was completed around 6:30 pm. First of all, the power supply for the Switching Station was restored at around 7 pm on the same day. Meanwhile, the power consumers were informed about the power outage via SMS on their registered mobile numbers.
