Pune, 11th January 2025: After two days of severe cold, Pune and the surrounding state witnessed a shift in weather conditions today, with the city covered by a thick blanket of fog between 6 am and 7 am. While the freezing temperatures of the previous days persisted, there was a slight easing of the chill in the air. The fog created a serene yet cold atmosphere, and the chilly conditions were somewhat milder compared to the past few days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a gradual increase in minimum temperatures across the state over the next three days. Light rains are expected in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, with the minimum temperature predicted to rise by 2°C to 3°C in the coming days.

The cold wave has caused temperatures to drop below 10°C in several parts of the state, including Pune, while areas like Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalgaon, and Parbhani experienced heavy fog accompanied by hail during the early morning hours.

The IMD further indicated that cyclonic winds forming in Southeast Iran and areas near Southwest Rajasthan have contributed to a shift in atmospheric pressure. This is expected to lead to a coordination of western and eastern winds, which will alleviate the extreme cold. As a result, the minimum temperature in Maharashtra is likely to increase by around 3°C in the coming days.
