Pune: Exserviceman Assaulted in Robbery Attempt, Suffers Fractures in Hadapsar

Hadapsar, 23rd January 2024: A 57-year-old retired Army veteran faced a brutal attack by two assailants on the night of January 15 in Kalepadal. The attackers, riding a bike, attempted to rob him.

The incident occurred as the veteran soldier was returning home from work, having disembarked from a PMPML bus near Hadapsar Mandai around 11 pm. Despite being a mere 100 meters away from his residence, his journey took a violent turn when the duo intercepted him, demanding money.

According to Senior Inspector Ravindra Shelke of Hadapsar police, “As they attempted to snatch money from his pocket, He resisted their efforts. In response, the assailants brutally kicked and punched him before hastily fleeing the scene on their bike. Passersby intervened and transported him to a private hospital, from where he was later shifted to the Command Hospital on January 16.”

The Command Hospital promptly forwarded a medico-legal case report to the Hadapsar police. Subsequently, the police registered a case in connection with the assault.

Sub-Inspector Avinash Shinde stated, “We have obtained CCTV footage capturing the entire incident and are in the process of verifying it to establish the identity of the culprits. Preliminary observations suggest that the assailants are in the age group of 22-25 years.”
