Pune: Facebook Friend Dupes Woman Of Rs 30 Lakh With Promise Of Gift From Abroad

Khadki, 8 October 2021: A 37-year-old woman has been cheated of Rs 30 lakh by a scammer who said that he had sent her a gift from abroad.
The incident took place between April to October 2021. The woman has lodged a complaint at Khadki police station under Pune city police. Accordingly, a case has been registered against the Facebook account holder and the bank account holder.
According to the police, the complainant is staying at Bhau Patil Road. She had received a friend request from a stranger in April. She accepted it. The person identified himself as Dr Dominic Global. After accepting the request, they started chatting daily.
Meanwhile, he said he had sent a gift to the complainant. However, the gift was seized by the customs department at the Delhi airport and asked to be released. After that, he kept calling her to get the gift and made her pay Rs 29.88 lakh under various pretexts.
The gift was not received even after payment. Despite this, he kept asking for more money. She then realized that she had been cheated and filed a complaint with the police.
Police Inspector (Crime) Sangita Jadhav is conducting further investigation in this regard.
