Pune, 7th May 2024: Due to low power supply from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), water supply was disrupted in the eastern areas falling under Cantonment Water Centre, including all the Peths on Monday. Citizens suddenly faced a shortage of water during the summer, causing alarm among the people.

Water is supplied to the Pune City’s Peths from the Parvati Water Centre, while the Cantonment Water Centre provides water to Pune Cantonment, Hadapsar, Kondhwa, etc. Today, due to the low power supply from the line providing electricity to the water treatment plants, difficulties have arisen in operating the pumps.

As a result, the pumps stopped working, leading to a halt in the water supply. This issue affected areas such as Sadashiv Peth, Narayan Peth, Shukrawar Peth, Guruwar Peth, Raviwar Peth, Budhwar Peth, Somwar Peth, Ganj Peth, Kasba Peth, and others.

Citizens have lodged complaints with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding the very low water pressure in certain areas, causing water to not reach the upper floors. Similarly, regions under the jurisdiction of Cantonment Water Centre have also experienced inadequate water supply.

With the scorching summer, citizens are dismayed by the sudden reduction in water availability, causing inconvenience. Following PMC’s complaint to the MSEDCL authorities, the power supply was restored. The pumps resumed full operation later in the afternoon.

Nandkishore Jagtap, Head of the PMC Water Supply Department, stated, “Parvati and Cantonment Water Centres were experiencing insufficient power supply, resulting in disrupted water supply across the city due to pump shutdowns. Discussions have been held with MSEDCL officials, and arrangements for adequate power supply have been ensured. Water supply will be restored to normalcy from today onwards.”
