Pune: Fadnavis Criticizes Sharad Pawar, Urges Leaders to Accept Defeat Gracefully
Pune, 9th December 2024: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took a sharp dig at senior leader Sharad Pawar, urging him to exhibit patience and accept electoral defeat. “Pawar knows the reasons behind the loss. He should listen to the people and the party workers rather than being misled by leaders who lie,” Fadnavis remarked on Sunday while speaking to the media in Shirur.
Fadnavis was attending a wedding ceremony near Malganga Mandir in Takli Haji, Shirur Taluka, when he addressed the media. His comments came in response to Pawar’s remarks during a public address in Kolhapur, where the latter discussed vote counts and candidate performances in the recent assembly elections.
Fadnavis had earlier countered Pawar’s statements by sharing Lok Sabha election data on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Expanding on his critique, the chief minister said, “Sharad Pawar is a leader with extensive experience. Such a leader should act with composure and accept the results. It appears he is under pressure from his workers, but he knows the real reasons behind the defeat.”
Fadnavis emphasized that Pawar’s actions should not erode public confidence in democracy. “He must not allow false narratives to dictate his actions. Listening to the people is critical, not to those who propagate lies. Maintaining the trust of the electorate is essential for the democratic process,” Fadnavis added.
