Pune: Fake Arms Licence of Habitual Offender Exposed After Lonavala Threat Case
Lonavala/Pune, 30th January 2026: A habitual offender was found to have fraudulently obtained an arms licence following a shocking incident in Lonavala, where a young woman was threatened at gunpoint.
The incident occurred a few days ago near Mafco Garden, when a man stepped out of a BMW and pointed a pistol at the woman. CCTV footage of the incident quickly went viral on social media, prompting police to launch an immediate investigation.
“We have informed the Pune Police Commissionerate about the arms licence issue. Further action will be taken as per procedure,” said Sandeep Singh Gill, Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural.
Police traced both the accused and the woman to a farmhouse. Based on her complaint, the accused was identified as Bhushan alias Rahul Ramchandra Taru, an acquaintance of the complainant. She alleged that after an argument, he assaulted her and threatened her with a pistol.
Further investigation revealed that Bhushan is a habitual offender with multiple criminal cases registered against him. Police then examined how he had obtained a legal arms licence and discovered that on November 4, 2022, he had applied for a weapons licence at the Pune Police Commissionerate by submitting false information.
According to authorities, Bhushan provided a fake residential address in Loni Kalbhor, along with forged rent agreement documents and a false affidavit claiming he lived in Swapnashil Society. The investigation confirmed that he had never resided at the stated address. It also emerged that he had prior criminal cases registered at Sahakarnagar police station in 2000, 2006, and 2011, as well as at Bund Garden police station, which he allegedly concealed while applying for the licence.
A case has been registered against Bhushan at Loni Kalbhor police station under Sections 181, 420, 465, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code for submitting false and forged documents.
A separate case has been filed at Lonavala police station in connection with the incident of threatening the woman with a pistol.
