Pune: Fake Army Officer Arrested For ‘Trapping’ 57 Women, Cheating Youths With Job Promises

Bibvewadi, 6th July 2021: A 27-year-old man has been arrested by Bibvewadi police station, Pune city police, for allegedly marrying four women and duping many youths promising to help them in recruitment by pretending to be an Army officer. Police said that he was in contact with 53 other girls also.

 

The arrested accused has been identified as Yogesh Dattu Gaikwad, a resident of Dongargaon in Kannada taluka of Aurangabad district. Police have also arrested his accomplice Sanjay Dnyaba Shinde (38), a resident of Kedgaon in Ahmednagar district.

 

Police have recovered Army uniforms, fake stamps, fake joining letters, a four-wheeler and two bikes, from the accused.

 

The investigation had started last month after a woman from Alandi lodged a complaint with Bibvewadi police station. She had met the accused in January 2020. She was waiting for a bus when Gaikwad passed in front of her and dropped his Aadhaar card, pretending it fell down by mistake. She picked up the card and handed it over to him. The conversation between them started. He pretended to be an Army officer. He won her family’s confidence and they got ‘married’ later on. He took Rs two lakh from her brother to help him get recruited in the Army.

Senior Police Inspector Sunil Zaware, in-charge of Bibvewadi police station, said that the accused married four women. No guest or relatives were invited citing lockdown restrictions and he used to marry in a room without any priest also. He was in contact with 53 other young women.

According to police, accused Gaikwad used to reach out to the young women alone at the bus stand and take their mobile numbers. Apart from that, he was luring women to get married through social media and various apps. He took Rs 2 to 3 lakh from relatives of women to recruit their brothers in the army.

The investigation was done under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Namrata Patil, Senior Inspector of Police Sunil Zaware, Police Inspector (crime) Anita Hivarkar. The team included API Rajesh Usgavkar and policemen Amit Pujari, Satish More, Tanaji Sagar, Shrikant Kulkarni, Atul Mahangade, Amol Shitole, Deepak Lodha and Rahul Kothavale.
