Pune: Fake Currency Notes Scattered on PMC Engineer’s Table Over Tender Corruption Allegations

Shivajinagar, 28th August 2026: Alleging corruption in the tender process of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Cantonment Water Supply Department, workers of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) Youth Congress staged a protest at the department office on Thursday and scattered fake currency notes in the cabin of a civic official.

The protesters questioned whether tenders were being awarded after accepting money from contractors and alleged irregularities in the process of determining the eligibility of contractors.

The protest was led by Amol Pardeshi, city vice-president of the NCP-SP Youth Congress.
Pardeshi alleged that different criteria were being applied while declaring contractors eligible or ineligible for two tenders floated by the Water Supply Department. He alleged that some contractors were being declared eligible while others were being disqualified despite allegedly similar circumstances.

During the protest, Pardeshi scattered fake currency notes on the table of Rajesh Shinde, executive engineer with the PMC Water Supply Department, to highlight the corruption allegations.

A video from the protest shows Shinde telling the protesters that he would examine what had happened in the tender process. He is also heard stating that he had not accepted money from anyone and did not want money from the protesters.
