Pune: Family Assaults Police Personnel During Counselling Session Inside Police Station
Vishrantwadi, 12th December 2024: A case has been registered against four members of a family, including two women, for allegedly assaulting police personnel and causing a ruckus during a counselling session at the Vishrantwadi police station on Tuesday afternoon. The accused family, casual labourers who recently moved to Pune from Daund, reportedly acted aggressively towards the officers, leading to the incident.
The altercation occurred around 1 p.m. when the family, who had been repeatedly quarrelling over domestic issues, was called in for a counselling session. “The family members have been seeking police intervention for their ongoing disputes for the past 15 days. Despite multiple counselling sessions, the arguments continued,” said Senior Inspector Kalpana Jadhav of Vishrantwadi police station.
During the session, tensions escalated as the family members began blaming each other and accusing the police of inadequate action. “The situation quickly spiralled out of control. Both the men and women stood up, started abusing, and even charged at the police personnel. One woman pushed a constable, while another family member grabbed a sub-inspector by the collar,” Jadhav added.
Despite the chaos, the officers managed to calm the situation. A case was subsequently registered against the family under charges of assault or criminal force against a public servant. “We served them notices to appear before the investigating officer whenever summoned, and they were allowed to leave afterwards,” Jadhav said.
The family, who moved to Pune two years ago in search of work, has been involved in frequent domestic disputes. The Vishrantwadi police have assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
