Pune: Family Prestige or Love? Probe Reveals Alleged Motive Behind Ketan Agarwal’s Death
Pune, 24th June 2026: The investigation into the alleged murder of Ketan Agarwal (25) at Lohgad Fort has taken a significant turn, with both accused reportedly confessing to their roles in the crime during police interrogation.
According to sources, Ketan’s fiancée, Siya Goyal (22), allegedly masterminded the plot to kill him because she did not want to go ahead with the marriage but feared the social consequences of calling it off. The revelations have emerged during the ongoing interrogation of co-accused Chetan Chaudhary (22), who is alleged to have assisted in carrying out the murder.
Police sources said Siya and Chetan are currently being subjected to intensive questioning. During his interrogation, Chetan allegedly told investigators that Siya was strongly opposed to marrying Ketan, son of builder Vishal Agarwal of Shubh Developers, despite their engagement having already taken place between two prominent families.
According to Chetan’s statement, Siya belonged to a respected and influential family and was deeply concerned about the family’s reputation. He claimed that she felt trapped after the engagement and feared that eloping or refusing to marry Ketan would bring embarrassment and social stigma upon her family. Investigators believe this concern may have motivated her to allegedly plan Ketan’s murder instead of calling off the wedding.
The case initially appeared to be a tragic accident. On June 18, Ketan died after falling into a gorge at Lohgad Fort near Pune. Following the incident, Siya allegedly broke down in tears and maintained that Ketan’s death was the result of an accidental fall during a trek. Her account was initially accepted by those present at the scene.
However, the investigation took a dramatic turn after Ketan’s funeral.
According to sources, Siya later visited the Agarwal family residence to offer condolences. During the visit, Ketan’s sister began asking her detailed questions about the events leading up to the incident, including how the group reached the fort, what transpired before the fall, and the exact sequence of events.
Family members reportedly became suspicious when Siya appeared confused while answering the questions. Sources said there were significant inconsistencies and contradictions in her account of events, casting doubt on the accident theory.
Alarmed by her allegedly contradictory statements and suspicious behaviour, members of the Agarwal family contacted the Pune Rural Police SP Sandeep Singh Gill and shared their concerns. Investigators subsequently intensified the probe, which ultimately led them to suspect foul play.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the alleged conspiracy and whether any other individuals were involved in the planning or execution of the crime.
Both accused remain in police custody.
