Following the investment agreement, the complainant, a former employee of a private company, told police that between June and August 2020, he made an RTGS transfer to their bank account. As a guarantee, the latter provided him with a postdated cheque for Rs 66 lakh. The cheques were, however, returned due to insufficient funds. The old man started following the pair to get his money back and the benefits they had promised him, but they kept making excuses not to.

The man’s initial complaint was submitted to the Pune police, who forwarded it to the Hinjewadi police. The Hinjewadi police registered the cheating complaint on Sunday following a preliminary investigation.
