Pune, 2nd October 2026: The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Pune division has seized food products worth ₹18,25,832 over suspected adulteration and labelling violations during a special festive-season enforcement drive. The administration has also suspended the food licences of 17 establishments, including restaurants, dairies and milk collection centres, over hygiene and food safety violations.

According to D. V. Bhogawade, Joint Commissioner (Food), FDA, Pune Division, the seizure operations were conducted between September 26 and 30 under the “Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra” campaign.

“Demand for food products, including khoya, mawa, sweets and dairy products, has increased during the festive season. Other vegetable fats and extraneous substances should not be used in milk and milk products,” Bhogawade said.

The enforcement operations covered establishments in Pune, Kolhapur and Sangli districts. Products seized included shrikhand, sweet and mango lassi, ghee, khoya, paneer, milk, cream, almonds, sweets, namkeen and cheese. The FDA attributed the seizures to suspected adulteration and labelling defects or misbranding.

Among the establishments named in the press note were Navnath Milk and Milk Products in Baramati, Aditi Milk and Milk Product at Nira in Purandar, Ocean Milk and Food Product at Hatwalan in Daund, and Morbiwala Sweets and Namkeen in Maharshinagar, Pune.

The administration also seized almonds from Lakshminarayan Trading Company in Market Yard; sweets from Pandian Products and Selling at Ekhatpur in Purandar; ghee from Lakheshwar Dairy in Warje; and cheese from premises associated with Yasin Sayyad Khan, also known as Sajid Khan, in Uruli Devachi.

In Kolhapur district, action was taken against Satvik Milk Products in Ichalkaranji and Shree Chhatrapati Shahu Milk and Agro Products at Vhanoor in Kagal. Ghee and cow cream were seized from Sai Agro Foods in Sangli.

Five Restaurants, 12 Dairy Establishments Face Suspension

The FDA said it suspended the licences of five restaurants after inspections revealed extensive unhygienic conditions, cockroaches or other insects, and violations of the hygiene requirements prescribed under Schedule 4 of the food safety regulations.

The restaurants named were:

  • Sai Prasad Veg, Navi Peth, Pune
  • Manas Family (Satara) Resto and Lounge, Balgandharv Chowk, Shivajinagar
  • Navale Hospitality’s Shivarsh Veg Restaurant, Warje
  • Hotel Rajput, Shirur
  • J.K. Chinese, Baramati

The licences were suspended with immediate effect in the interest of public health, the press note stated.

A separate inspection drive at milk collection centres and dairies resulted in the suspension of 12 more licences across Pune and Satara districts. The establishments included milk collection and cooling centres in Indapur, Baramati and Daund, as well as Shri Sevagiri Milk and Milk Products, Nature Delight Dairy and Dairy Products’ Palashi unit, and Heritage Foods’ Bijawadi milk collection centre in Satara district.

The FDA cited extensive unhygienic conditions and violations of prescribed food safety requirements at these premises.

Bhogawade urged consumers to report concerns about food quality or hygiene. “Consumers with complaints about the quality or cleanliness of food products should register them on the administration’s toll-free number, 1800 222 365,” he said.

“Strict action by the Food and Drug Administration will continue,” he added.
