Pune, 13th July 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized suspected adulterated and non-compliant food stock worth ₹37.61 lakh during a special enforcement drive across the Pune Division, targeting milk dairies, food processing units and distribution centres. The operation also led to the destruction of large quantities of milk and the collection of samples of milk, paneer, lassi, biscuits and other food products for laboratory analysis.

The special drive was conducted between July 8 and July 12 under the guidance of Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. During the operation, FDA officials carried out raids at seven locations across Pune Division and seized a total of 92,541 kilograms and litres of food products over suspected adulteration and labelling violations.

Authorities also ordered the closure of operations at two milk establishments until further orders.

In Pune district, approximately 53,000 litres of milk transported in tankers belonging to Ajinkyarana Milk Industries and Priyadarshini Milk Collection Centre were destroyed after officials suspected adulteration.
In another action, the FDA seized 1,806 litres of milk from Yashoda Milk and Milk Products in Junnar and issued a notice directing the unit to suspend business operations pending further orders.

The enforcement drive extended to Solapur district, where officials inspected the chilling centre of Ajinkyarana Milk Industries. The unit was found to be operating without the required licence and allegedly violating food safety regulations. As a result, 37,532 litres of milk stored at the facility were destroyed.

In Sangli district, officials collected samples of paneer and lassi from Malati Agencies and seized the stock for further investigation. Similarly, in Kolhapur district, samples of various types of cookies and bakery products were collected from Balaji Bakers, while the stock was taken into custody for laboratory testing.

A separate inspection in Phaltan in Satara district revealed the alleged use of milk powder for adulterating milk at a cowshed. Following the discovery, a criminal case was registered against five persons at the Phaltan Police Station.

FDA officials said all food samples collected during the operation have been sent to laboratories for detailed analysis. Further legal action will be initiated based on the test reports.

The administration has warned that strict action will continue against food business operators found running establishments without valid licences or violating food safety norms.

Joint Commissioner Digambar Bhogawade appealed to consumers to remain vigilant about food quality and report suspected cases of adulteration or unsafe food products. Consumers can lodge complaints with the FDA through its toll-free helpline 1800-222-365, he said.

The latest crackdown forms part of the FDA’s ongoing statewide campaign to curb food adulteration and ensure compliance with food safety standards, particularly during the monsoon season when the risk of contamination and the demand for dairy products remain high.
