Market Yard, 15th July 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sealed a spice shop in Pune’s Market Yard area owned by the family of Siya Goyal, an accused in the Ketan Agrawal murder case, over alleged violations of food safety and licensing norms. The action was carried out by a team led by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe as part of the department’s ongoing crackdown on food adulteration and regulatory violations.

The establishment, B.G. Goyal & Company, owned by Siya Goyal’s father, came under the FDA’s scanner after the department received information alleging the sale of substandard food products. During the inspection, officials reportedly found suspected substandard spices, food products without mandatory labeling, and irregularities related to the business licence.

According to the FDA, more than 4,000 kilograms of food products worth approximately ₹8 lakh were seized during the operation. The confiscated stock included turmeric powder, sesame seeds, and soybean chunks. Officials said the products were seized on suspicion of adulteration and labeling violations.

The department has also issued a notice directing the establishment to remain closed until further orders. Authorities stated that the business had allegedly failed to comply with statutory requirements and had not renewed or updated its food business licence as mandated under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

The action is part of the FDA’s statewide enforcement drive to curb food adulteration and ensure compliance with food safety regulations. In recent weeks, the department has intensified inspections of milk, dairy products, spices, and other essential food items across Maharashtra.

The FDA has also stepped up action against the illegal sale of prohibited products, including tobacco, gutkha, and pan masala. The department reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against businesses found violating food safety standards.
