Pune: FDA Seizes Gujarat Barfi Stock Worth Rs 5.9 Lakh From Sweet Shops Ahead Of Diwali

Pune, 20th October 2022: The officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have seized Gujarat Barfi worth Rs 5.9 lakh has been seized from various sweet shops in Pune city.

According to the FDA, they had got the stock from Gujarat and Vasai. Further investigation will be conducted as to what Gujarat Barfi was used for which they ordered from this seller and accordingly action will be taken against the concerned as per the rules.
The FDA is conducting a sampling campaign on the background of Diwali, under which, from October 1 to October 19, sweets 28, khawa-2, semolina, maida, gram flour-12, edible oil-7, vegetable/ghee-2, salt – Total 70 food samples including 3 and 16 of other food items have been taken for analysis. Also, as it was found that the old container was reused for packing edible oil, stock worth Rs 4.5 lakh was found in three places, green peas- Rs 39,800, sweetmeat- Rs 6,750 and ghee/khawa Rs 12,400, totaling Rs 5.1 lakh has been confiscated.
FDA Joint Commissioner Sanjay Naragude said that all sweet sellers should mention the ‘best before’ date on the trays of sweets kept for sale in the shop and should not use adulterated sweet khawa (Gujarat barfi) for making sweets, use good quality khawa made from milk. If sweets are made using sweet khawa (Gujarat barfi), action will be taken against the sweet sellers.
