90 Lakes From Pune District Selected For Amrit Sarovar Yojana
Pune, 20th October 2022: Amrit Sarovar Yojana is being implemented on the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence. For this, 90 lakes in the district have been selected. The work of revitalization of 25 of these lakes has been completed, while the work on 50 lakes is underway for the next phase. Through the Amrit Sarovar scheme of the central government, rainwater is being pumped underground. Efforts are being made to increase the underground water level.
The revival work of 25 lakes in the first phase was completed on Independence Day. Flags were hoisted on these lakes by village freedom fighters, senior members of Gram Panchayat, and Padma Shri awardees. It is not possible to create new ponds during monsoons. Therefore, currently, a revival program has been undertaken, while the names of 50 new lakes have been decided for the next year, said the district administration.
In some villages of the district, if it is not possible to create nectar lakes, efforts are being made to increase the water storage in the lake by removing silt from the available lake and reviving the lake. Funds from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, 15th Finance Commission, Agricultural Irrigation Scheme, and others are being used for this work.
Amrit Sarovar Scheme is being implemented under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. 75 lakes were to be selected in the district. However, 90 lakes have been selected in the Pune district. Work has started on 48 of them, while work on 25 of them has been completed by August 15. In the second phase, the aim is to complete the works of 50 lakes by 2023, the district administration said. The work of 25 lakes in the district has been completed by 15th August. The works of 50 lakes will be completed by 2023, the Deputy Collector of Rohoyo, Dr Vanashree Labashetwar, said.
