Pune: FDA Suspends Licences of 10 Bakeries, Restaurants and Dairies Over Hygiene Violations
Pune, 18th July 2026: In a major crackdown on food safety violations, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of 10 food establishments, including bakeries, restaurants, dairies and canteens, after inspections revealed serious hygiene lapses and violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
The action followed inspections carried out on Thursday and Friday, during which FDA officials found widespread unhygienic conditions at several food establishments. The department has also released photographs from the inspections, highlighting the poor sanitary conditions in which food was allegedly being prepared and handled.
Among the establishments in Pune whose licences have been suspended are Star Catering Service in Mangalwar Peth, Ashok Bar and Restaurant in Somwar Peth, Golden Majestic Bakery in Yewalewadi, Golden Bakery in Kondhwa, and Bikange Biryani LLP in Baner.
The FDA also suspended the licences of Siddharth Agro (Dairy) at Pargaon Peth in Ambegaon taluka, Halad Bhavan Canteen in Sangli, Sahyadri Restaurant and Dhaba and Sigdi Restaurant in Mahabaleshwar, Satara district, and the VBGOR School Canteen at Gadmudshingi in Karveer taluka of Kolhapur district.
According to the FDA, inspections at all 10 establishments revealed that basic hygiene standards were not being maintained and that there were significant violations of food safety regulations. The licences were suspended with immediate effect.
The latest action is part of the FDA’s ongoing drive to improve food safety standards and ensure that restaurants, bakeries, dairies and other food businesses comply with hygiene norms prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
FDA officials said further action against the establishments will depend on their compliance with the prescribed food safety standards and corrective measures taken to address the deficiencies identified during the inspections.
