Pune fights Coronavirus: Rotary Club supports corona warriors with PPE kits, masks

Pune, June 15, 2020: Rotary Club of Poona West have come forward to support Doctors, Nurses and Medical staff of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) who are fighting against Coronavirus and treating COVID19 patients and thereby having the highest risk of being infected from Coronavirus. On Behalf of the club, president Rtn Dr Tanuuja Marathe, District Governor of RID3131 Ravee Dhotre, DGE Rashmi Kulkarni, DGN Pankaj Shah handed over 2000 PPE kits and 5000 N95 masks to PMC Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad.

In addition to above, the Club also handed over 4000 masks to waste pickers of Pune Kashtakari Panchayat Trust who are associated with PMC and are working during lockdown to pick-up waste from door to door and have a high risk of the Coronavirus. Further, grocery and vegetable kits which can feed a family for about 10 days were also distributed to 1000 waste pickers of Kashtakari Panchayat Trust and 500 cleaning workers/ needy persons through Vaishali Patkar of Aundh Vikas Mandal. These kits contain food grains like wheat flour, rice, dal, besan, oil, salt, spices and various types of vegetables.

This was all possible from large donation received from a donor family from the USA and with the financial assistance from Rotary Foundation and joint participative support from Rotary Club of Singapore North.

Rotary Club of Poona West has always been a front runner in supporting society at all-time and serving to the community since last over 51 years. In the recent past also, this club has provided PPE kits and masks to Maharashtra State’s Sassoon Hospital in the fight against Coronavirus epidemic. The club’s total estimated expenditure of various corona related projects for the society is appx 40 lakhs rupees.

The Club’s IPP Charu Shrotri, Trustee Ajit Damle, Secretary Vipin Ghate, Rtn Santosh Marathe, Nitin Asalkar, Rita Kothary, Kalyani Gokhle, Mandar Gadre and Juee Kulkarni and Club’s Rotarians took extra efforts to make this possible.
