Pune, June 15, 2020: “Public transportation is currently banned at various places in the state and private carriers are facing major financial difficulties. But on the other hand, large number of illegal passenger transportation has started in the district. It is a matter of great concern that the matter has been repeatedly brought to the notice of the Regional Transport Officer’s office, but still no action has been taken,” said Balasaheb Khedekar, President of Pune District Luxury Bus Association.

According to Khedekar, the bus owners are operating the buses by fleecing the passengers as they are charging enormous amounts like Rs. 2,000 for Latur-Pune, Rs. 2,500 for Jalgaon-Pune and Rs. 5,000 for Pune-Nagpur.

However, to curb the menace, the Association starting from Sunday, June 14 has taken the initiative to try and locate vehicles in the district carrying illegal passengers and hand them over to the police. The campaign is also supported by all the bus associations in Pune district.

“While the district is under ban, certain people are transporting these passengers illegally for their personal gain. Also, there is no compliance with any of the rules laid down by the government like physical distancing or disinfecting the buses, which can be dangerous for passengers.
