Pimpri, 23rd November 2023: In a startling revelation, it has been discovered that a contract employee at the cash counter of the emergency department in Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, run by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, engaged in embezzlement by generating counterfeit receipts. The financial misconduct has resulted in a significant disparity between the amounts purportedly collected and the funds remitted to the hospital administration. Promptly responding to this grave matter, the concerned employee has been immediately transferred, and an administrative inquiry has been initiated.

The cash counter, operational after the closure of the Outpatient Department (OPD) at YCM Hospital, witnessed a constant influx of transactions, particularly in the afternoon. It has been alleged that the contract worker manipulated records by fabricating receipts, creating a façade of cash deposits in the hospital ranging from thousands to lakhs of rupees. The fraudulent activity is said to have transpired over the past ten months during the employee’s tenure, from 2 pm to 10 pm daily.

The irregularities primarily involved the issuance of receipts related to the purchase of blood and platelets by the patient’s relatives, with daily transactions ranging from Rs.3,000 to Rs.9,000. The extent of the financial deception is yet to be determined, but it is apparent that the hospital’s funds have been significantly compromised.

Hospital head Dr. Rajendra Wable has taken swift action by ordering an administrative inquiry into the financial scam perpetrated by the contract employee. Preliminary investigations have already disclosed a financial discrepancy, prompting the closure of the implicated “cash counter.” The employee in question has been promptly transferred to another department.

Dr. Wable commented on the situation, stating, “Such acts have been carried out by the contractual employee since January 2023. The preliminary investigation has revealed financial discrepancies. The ‘cash counter’ has been closed immediately, and the contractual employee has been transferred. The inquiry committee will provide a detailed report in two days, following which further actions will be taken.”
