Pune, 7th April 2026: The Wanowrie police have registered a case against a water tanker driver in connection with a fatal accident that led to the death of a 22-year-old woman engineer in the area on Tuesday morning.

The victim, Gracia Daniel Issa, who lived at Nancy Tower Housing Society near Kedari Petrol Pump, was travelling to her workplace on a two-wheeler when the accident took place around 7.45 am near Ganga Satellite Housing Society.

As per the complaint lodged by her mother, the tanker allegedly struck her vehicle due to alleged reckless driving, leaving her with critical head injuries. She was taken to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries.

Police have booked the driver, identified as Santoshkumar Mourya (45), under sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.

The incident has triggered outrage among residents, who say such accidents involving water tankers have become increasingly frequent in the locality. They pointed out that the tragedy comes just days after a similar incident in NIBM Annexe, where 19-year-old national footballer Aariz Shaikh was killed after being hit by a speeding tanker.

Locals from Wanowrie, Mohammadwadi and Kondhwa have raised concerns over the unregulated movement of heavy tanker vehicles through residential areas, especially during peak hours. They allege that repeated complaints have failed to prompt effective action, putting the safety of pedestrians and motorists at risk.

Residents have called for stricter enforcement and regulation of tanker operations, warning that the lack of oversight is making city roads increasingly hazardous.
