Pune: FIR registered against London return man for refusing to institutional quarantine

Pune, June 19, 2020: According to the guidelines of the government dated 24 May 2020, it is mandatory for the passengers coming from abroad to undergo institutional quarantine for seven days. Despite this, Ashwin Kumar Singh (age 31) flew from London to Mumbai on June 16 and then left for his home in Handewadi (Taluka Haveli, District Pune).

Ajit Sanas, the nodal officer of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) who was on duty at that time, went to his home and explained to him. However, Singh refused to be quarantined at the institution. Therefore, on the order of Zilla Parishad Block Development Officer Prashant Shirke a First Information Report (FIR) was registered with Loni Kalbhor police station (Pune rural police) against Singh.

He has been charged for offences under section 188, 270 of Indian Penal Code, Section 51 of Disaster Management Act 2005, Section 11 of Maharashtra Covid19 Regulation 2020 and section 2 of Epidemic Diseases Act, said Deputy Collector Sarang Kodolkar.
