Pune Fire Brigade Honors National Fire Service Week, Commemorates Brave Firefighters

Pune, 20th April 2024: National Fire Service Week, observed from April 14th to 20th, commemorates a significant event from 1944 when 66 brave firefighters lost their lives battling a blaze on a ship at Mumbai’s dockyard. This solemn occasion serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by firefighters and aims to enhance public awareness of fire safety measures nationwide.

During this week, the officers and personnel of the Pune Fire Brigade conducted various activities across the city to educate citizens about fire safety. Demonstrations and lectures were organized at hospitals, malls, schools, colleges, tall buildings, and other establishments, offering practical guidance on responding to fires and emergencies. An exhibition held at Saras Bagh showcased firefighting materials and procedures, garnering positive feedback from the public.

At the closing ceremony, Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potfode recognized the exemplary performance of 23 officers and firefighters over the past year, presenting them with certificates of appreciation. Expressing pride in the dedication and competence of his team, Potfode commended their unwavering commitment to duty. The event was moderated by Station Duty Officer Gajanan Pathrudkar, who extended gratitude to all participants.
