Pune Fire Brigade’s Quick Response Saves Brother and Sister in Mental Crisis on Bhai Dooj
Wanwadi, 3rd November 2024: Firefighters in Pune demonstrated true brotherhood on Bhai Dooj by saving the lives of a brother and sister who were trapped in their apartment due to a domestic dispute. The incident occurred at 10:20 AM in Vikas Nagar, Wanwadi.
Upon receiving an emergency call at the fire brigade control room in Wanwadi, a fire engine was promptly dispatched from the BT Kawde Road and Kondhwa Khurd Fire Station. Upon arrival, firefighters were informed by police personnel that the 19-year-old brother and 24-year-old sister were inside the apartment, in a mental crisis, and had expressed intentions to harm themselves.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, firefighters acted swiftly. Using firefighting equipment, including door breakers, they managed to break down the locked door in approximately ten minutes. Upon entering the apartment, they discovered the two individuals unconscious and immediately transported them to a nearby private hospital in a fire brigade vehicle.
Medical staff at the private hospital confirmed that both were stabilized and would recover, crediting the timely intervention of the firefighters. This timely rescue was especially poignant for the firefighters, as it took place on Bhai Dooj, a festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters.
The rescue operation involved drivers Datta Adalge and Satyam Chounkhede, along with firefighters Subhash Khade, Sagar Dalvi, Nilesh Wankhede, Shreyas Mete, Mahesh Pande, Suraj Hulwan, Harshvardhan Khade, Anurag Patil, and Ritesh More.
Pune Police are investigating the suicide attempt by the brother, and sister duo.
