Pune, 24th May 2021: A fire safety audit has been conducted in 737 hospitals in Pune districts. In this, 91 hospitals were found with serious flaws in their fire safety measures.

Out of 737 hospitals, 192 are from Pune city, 132 are from Pimpri-Chinchwad, 11 from Cantonment boards, and 402 hospitals from the rural area. The flaws have been classified into three categories i.e. serious, medium, and mild flaws.

In the backdrop of various fire incidents that happened in recent time, Pune divisional commissioner ordered a fire audit at all government and private hospitals in the district. This included hospitals in Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad city, and the rural areas of the district.

The audit has been conducted in 737 hospitals. For this, a seven-member committee has been appointed under the leadership of commissioners of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The committee visited the hospitals and conducted an audit. In this audit, it was highlighted that, due to the increase in the number of Covid -19 virus-infected people, the demand for medical equipment has increased. Also in some hospitals, the ventilator and oxygen bed facilities were expanded which created a burden on electricity supply and fire systems in the hospital.

The district administration has ordered that the flaws should be resolved within one to two weeks. A fund of Rs seven crore has been allocated for the government, municipal and district hospital for the same.
