Pune: Fish, Chicken, and Eggs Get Costlier Amid Increased Demand; Mutton Prices Remain Stable

Pune, 20th May 2025: Prices of fish, chicken, and eggs have surged in Pune due to increased demand and supply constraints caused by unseasonal rain and storms. However, mutton prices have remained steady, thanks to a balance in supply and demand.
Fish arriving at Pune’s Ganesh Peth fish market from both the eastern and western coasts of India have seen a 10% price hike across varieties. Traders attribute the increase to reduced landings due to rough seas and unpredictable weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the demand for chicken and eggs has risen with the onset of cloudy weather and showers in the region. Supply has not kept pace with demand, pushing chicken prices up by ₹10 per kg and English egg prices by ₹50 to ₹60 per hundred over last week.
Mutton prices have remained stable, as market conditions for supply and demand continue to be consistent.
According to traders, the Ganesh Peth fish market received on Sunday (May 18):
5 to 8 tonnes of deep-sea fish
200 to 400 kg of bay fish
1 to 2 tonnes of river fish
An additional 20 tonnes of Rohu, Katla, and Silan fish were imported
from Andhra Pradesh.
