Pune: Five Dead, Several Injured As Bus Overturns In Tamhini Ghat Accident

Pune, 20th December 2024: A tragic accident near Waterfall Point in Tamhini Ghat claimed the lives of five passengers and left several others seriously injured when a bus overturned after losing control. The bus, carrying wedding guests from Chakan to Veerwadi (Mahad), veered off the road, trapping some passengers inside the vehicle.
Rescue teams recovered the bodies of three women and two men, while efforts are ongoing to extricate two passengers still trapped inside the wreckage. The death toll is expected to rise, with 12 to 13 people reportedly in critical condition.
Upon receiving the distress call, Mangaon Police Inspector Nivrutti Borade and his team promptly arrived at the scene, initiating rescue operations. Ambulances, including one from the POSCO company, provided immediate medical aid to the injured, who were rushed to the sub-district hospital in Mangaon for treatment.
The cause of the accident remains unclear, though Tamhini Ghat is notorious for its hazardous conditions. The area’s sharp turns, narrow roads, and deteriorating infrastructure, particularly during the monsoon season, have contributed to frequent accidents.
Authorities have pledged to investigate the cause of the accident and take necessary steps to prevent further tragedies in the area. The recurring incidents at Tamhini Ghat have reignited safety concerns, highlighting the need for better road maintenance and stricter safety measures to protect travelers navigating the perilous route.
