Such incidents were said to have happened earlier in the Sangam Ghat area. Incidents of stray dogs being killed by poisoning their food items have taken place in different parts of the city in the past.

“Due to the nuisance caused by stray dogs as well as due to superstitions, dogs are killed. Exactly how many dogs die each year? Since it is difficult to provide this information, it is not given publicly by the administration. Strict enforcement of Animal Welfare Board rules is necessary to prevent such incidents.” Kalyani Shah, a member of the Peoples for Animals Association, said that awareness should be created in society through animal lovers and voluntary organisations.
