Pimpri-Chinchwad, 18th June 2023: To continue its demand for the renaming of the Pimpri-Chinchwad city as ‘Jijau Nagar’, Bhakti-Shakti Pratishthan has once again put up flexes and banners all over the city.

Earlier in the month, hundreds of banners were put up across the city in support of the demand to rename Pimpri-Chinchwad city in tribute to Rajmata Jijau, mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Similarly, in support of this demand, a social media campaign in the name of #ISupportJijauNagar is also running from Pratishthan.

Yesterday (June 17) marked the 350th death anniversary of Rajmata Jijau, and on this occasion, Bhakti-Shakti Pratishthan once again made its demand. Pimpri-Chinchwad is often referred to as ‘PCMC’. If this continues, the city will lose its identity in the future. Keeping this in mind, there is a consistent demand from Bhakti-Shakti Praishthan that the city should be renamed Jijau Nagar.

Just like Mumbai, which became Bombay, Pimpri-Chinchwad should not be named PCMC. The name PCMC is English. Often, professionals or people from outside the state avoid taking the name Pimpri-Chinchwad and take the name PCMC.

Mahesh Barne says that this is reducing the recognition of the city’s name. He insists that the name of the city should be Jijau Nagar. “The Bhakti-Shakti Pratishthan firmly believes that renaming the city to Jijau Nagar would pay homage to Rajmata Jijau and preserve the city’s heritage,” he said.
