Pune, 18th November 2022: To maintain the historical importance of Sinhagad fort and also the beauty of the fort, the forest department launched an anti-encroachment drive at 6 am today.

A decision was taken to evict the encroachment of food stalls scattered from the base to the top of the fort. The fort has been encroached on by the food stall holders from the parking lot to the top by using plastic papers at various places for the past few years.

“The encroachment holders have been given legal notices, and the illegal huts have been evicted through the forest department. After the eviction, the historical heritage of Sinhagad fort, as well as the beauty of the fort will remain intact,” informed Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF) Rahul Patil.

He added, “The forest department is considering facilitating the said stall holders under the nature tourism scheme, and the issue of creating equal employment for the said encroachment holders has been solved through the joint forest management committee with the help of local citizens.”

The officer further said that after removing the encroachments, the parking space will also expand. Also, there will be ample parking space for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. As a result, traffic congestion can be avoided on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

The anti-encroachment drive was led by the forest department with assistance from the Pune rural police and Public Works Department (PWD).

The team included Assistant Conservator of Forests Deepak Pawar, Forest Range Officer (Bhamburda) Pradeep Sankpal, Mukesh Sanas, Sushil Mantawar, Santosh Chavan, Hanumant Jadhav, Ajit Suryavanshi, forest guard, forest staff, and police personnel.
