Pune, 13th June 2023: Nature enthusiasts can soon rejoice as the Pune Forest Department, in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra, is preparing to inaugurate an exciting eco-tourism centre at Kanheri in Baramati taluka during the upcoming monsoon season.
According to a forest officer, the eco-tourism centre is poised to commence operations this monsoon, capitalizing on Kanheri’s status as a haven for nature lovers, particularly during the rainy season. The centre aims to provide visitors with an opportunity to explore the region’s stunning natural beauty while observing rare animals and birds in their undisturbed habitats. Additionally, the forest department aims to create employment prospects for local communities. Currently, approximately 75% of the project is completed, and the inauguration is scheduled to take place in the coming days.
The construction of the Eco-Tourism Centre project began in 2021, utilizing a land area of approximately 56 hectares allocated to the Forest Department by the Government of Maharashtra. A total budget of INR 11 crore was earmarked for the project, with the allocation announced in three installments in the state’s financial budget for 2020-21. The first installment of INR 5 crore 24 lakh was allocated in 2021, followed by INR 3 crore in 2022. The remaining INR 2 crore 76 lakh will soon be assigned to expedite the project’s completion.
One of the main attractions at the centre will be a boat ride, offering visitors a unique and immersive experience. In addition to the boat ride, there will be a wide range of eco-friendly activities to engage in, such as adventure activities like ziplining, a kids commando course, adventure puzzles, high and low rope activities, nature walks, cycle rides, and much more.
