Pune 15th October 2023: The serious allegations levelled by retired IPS officer and former commissioner of Pune Police Meeran Borwankar against Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has sparked a controversy in the Maharashtra state. However, the former divisional commissioner Dilip Band has called the allegations false and said that the junior Pawar had no relations with the alleged Yerwada police station land issue.

Borwankar, former Pune Police Commissioner in her latest book ‘Madam Commissioner’ has alleged that Ajit Pawar gave a land in Yerwada to a builder, who was later an accused in the 2G scam.

Band while speaking to a news channel said, “In Yerwada, there was a developer’s land near those land which are in question now. The builder asked for that land and in return promised to build a police station building. Since I was a divisional commissioner, I was called to a meeting by then home minister R R Patil in this regard and the meeting was also attended by then Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh and the Chief Secretary.”

Band further said that he suggested the home minister that the administration can ask the builder to build quarters for police personnel instead of a police station because the situation of quarters in Shivajinagar was not that good. “The minister agreed to this and suggested to build a police station in front and quarters behind that. After that, tenders were invited through consultants. A total of 60 tenders were received and Everest Smile Construction Company proposed to build 495 houses. Then our committee of seven people sent this proposal to the Police Commissioner, and after approval, we accepted it. The government also approved it. Later, work orders were given” he added.

Band also said that there was no opposition by anyone at the time this decision was taken. “However, then Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh was transferred and Meeran Borwankar was appointed as the Commissioner of Pune City Police and she did not agree with this arrangement”, he said.
