Pune: Friendship With Unknown Girl Costs Rs 67 Lakh To Young Man, Two Persons Arrested

Pune, 29th July 2022: A girl allegedly honey-trapped a 26-year-old man with the help of her accomplices and extorted Rs 67 lakh from him. Due to their continuous threats, the young man was frightened and lodged a complaint with the crime branch of the Pune city police. Police have arrested two persons in this regard.

The names of those arrested are Chetan Ravindra Hingmire, a resident of Kalepadal in Hadapsar, and Nikhil alias Gaurav Dnyaneshwar Mhetre, a resident of Gadital, Hadapsar. A case has been registered at the Kondhwa police station against three people including a young woman in this case.

According to police, the complainant’s cousin has a stone crusher business. He is working as a supervisor in his cousin’s company. The young man handles the financial dealings of the company. Last year in the month of January, he went to the Koregaon Bhima area on Nagar Road. At that time he was staying at a lodge there when someone asked him to contact the young woman by giving her mobile number.

The complainant and the young woman became friends and they met in the Bopdev Ghat area. After getting to know the young woman, he helped her financially. The girl then asked him for money to buy a bike. The young man sent her Rs 25 thousand online.

After that, the young lady contacted him again. The girl told him that she is pregnant and will inform her husband Chetan Hingmare. The frightened young man gave money to the Hingmire. After that, the case went to Wanwadi police and the accused Nikhil Mhetre said that the girl is a minor.

The accused called the complainant youth to Wagholi and threatened to kill him. A total of Rs 67 lakh were extorted from him from time to time. The frightened young man finally lodged a complaint with the crime branch.

Senior Police Inspector Hemant Patil of Crime Branch Unit 5 and the team arrested the accused Hingmire and Mhetre.

The action was taken under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ramnath Pokale, DCP (Crime) Shriniwas Ghadge and ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar. The team included API Krishna Babar, PSI Chaitali Gapat and police personnel Ramesh Sable, Daya Shegar, Vinod Shivle, Akbar Shaikh, Pramod Tilekar, Pratap Gaikwad and Pandurang Kamble.
