Pune: From Novices To International Sailors, NDA Open Sailing Regatta Sees Diverse Mix Of Competitors At Khadakwasla Lake

Khadakwasla, 3rd March 2023: The National Defence Academy (NDA) Open Sailing Regatta was conducted from 26 February to 28 February in picturesque Khadakwasla Lake as part of the series of events being conducted by NDA to commemorate the 75 Glorious Years of its existence. A total of 60 competitors from National Defence Academy, Army Yachting Node, Mumbai, INS Shivaji and Military Institute of Technology contested keenly in Enterprise class and ILCA 6 class fleet races.

Major General Sanjeev Dogra, Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor, National Defence Academy was the chief guest for the Closing Ceremony and Prize Distribution which concluded the event on 28 February.

The placid waters of Peacock Bay sported a fleet of beautiful sails and a flurry of activity as the participants competed for the top honours in 21 races conducted over the three days. The capricious winds tested the abilities in both staid conditions and gusty winds.

The competitors were a melee of yachts persons from accomplished international level sailors from Army Yachting Node to novices as young as 12 years from National Defence Academy. The cadets utilised the opportunity to interact with the best of sailors in the country and learn from their experience and techniques.
