Pune: FTII’s Preview Theatre to be named after famed writer Manohar Shyam Joshi

Pune, August 08, 2020: The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune will name its famous Preview Theatre, located in the TV Building on the Campus, as Manohar Shyam Joshi Preview Theatre in memory of the famed Hindi writer. Joshi is widely remembered for scripting Indian television’s first soap operas ‘Hum Log’ and ‘Buniyaad’.

The online dedication ceremony will take place on the birth anniversary of the late writer on Sunday, August 9, at the hands of Dr Bhagwati Joshi, wife Manohar Shyam Joshi accompanied by their sons Anupam Joshi, Anurag Joshi and Ashish Joshi. Mridula Garg (Hindi Writer, Sahitya Akademi Award winner), Dr Pushpesh Pant (International affairs analyst, historian, columnist and food critic) and Purnendu Shekhar (Screen Writer of TV serials like Balika Vadhu, Astitva: Ek Prem Kahani, etc.) will be present on the occasion.

Born on August 9,1933, Manohar Shyam Joshi was one of the most influential Hindi writers, journalists and commentators of his time.

“The FTII Governing Council under the Chairmanship of BP Singh unanimously made this important decision to recognise the sterling contribution of Manohar Shyam Joshi to the world of letters, and honour him by dedicating FTII’s reputed Preview Theatre in his memory. Generations of students and lovers of image-and-sound in future will remember the great screenwriter whenever they enter the hallowed portals of Manohar Shyam Joshi Preview Theatre,” said Bhupendra Kainthola, Director, FTII on the eve of the dedication ceremony.
