Pune: Garbage Dump at Vaiduwadi’s Late Chandrakant Tatyaba Shinde Chowk Sparks Health Concerns; Residents Demand Permanent Solution
Reported by Shoaib Tadvi
Hadapsar, 17th July 2026: A large heap of garbage dumped at Late Chandrakant Tatyaba Shinde Chowk in Vaiduwadi, Hadapsar, has become a major concern for residents, shopkeepers, and commuters. The dumping spot is located on the left side of the road after crossing the railway bridge towards Ramtekadi, on a road connected to the busy Pune–Solapur Highway.
The accumulated waste has created unhygienic conditions, a foul odour, and an eyesore along one of the city’s busiest roads. Residents say the area is regularly cleaned by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), but the problem continues to recur as people keep dumping waste illegally at the same location.
The stretch is lined with several shops and witnesses heavy vehicular movement throughout the day. Locals fear that the open garbage pile attracts stray animals, flies, and mosquitoes, posing a serious health risk to nearby residents and commuters.
Expressing concern over the recurring issue, a local resident told Punekar News:
“This road is connected to the Pune–Solapur Highway and is used by thousands of people every day. Despite regular cleaning, people continue to dump garbage here. The civic administration should install CCTV cameras, put up warning boards, and take strict action against those responsible for illegal dumping.”
Another resident said:
“The garbage creates a foul smell and unhygienic conditions for everyone, especially nearby shopkeepers and pedestrians. Temporary cleaning is not enough. We need a permanent solution to stop waste from being dumped here again and again.”
Responding to the issue, Ravi Khandare, Assistant Commissioner, Hadapsar-Manjari Ward Office, PMC, told Punekar News:
“We have taken note of the issue. I assure citizens that the garbage will be cleared from the spot. Our Garbage Inspector will visit the location today itself, and we will work towards implementing a permanent solution so that waste is not dumped there again.”
Residents have now urged the PMC to take strict preventive measures to ensure the location remains clean and free from illegal garbage dumping in the future.
