Pune Gears Up for the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival

Pune, 15th June 2024: As the curtains draw to a close on the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF), jointly organized by NFDC and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India, Pune awaits a special cinematic extravaganza.
With a mission to captivate audiences with the finest in Documentary, Short, and Animation films, the festival is set to roll out special red carpet premieres and screenings in Pune, Kolkata, Delhi, and Chennai.
Pune-based filmmakers will shine as their works grace the screens, alongside a special screening of the opening film “Billy and Molly – An Otter Love Story” at the NFDC – National Film Archive of India.
From June 15th to June 21st, the NFDC – NFAI venue in Pune will host daily screenings of official selections from the 18th MIFF. Among the international competition entries, Pune audiences can anticipate acclaimed films such as “Against the Tide” by Sarvnik Kaur, “Glass my Unfulfilled Life” by Rogier Kappier, “Karparaa” by Vignesh Kumulai, and “I Am Not” by Homer Hermann. Additionally, Marathi cinema will be well-represented with screenings of “Bhed Chal” by Ankit Pogula, “Sahastrasurya Savarkar” by Shubhangi Rajan Sawant, and “Aathvanitlya Paaulkhuna” by Suhas Sitaram Karnekar.
Highlighting local talent, the festival will feature films by Pune filmmakers selected for the prestigious event. Films such as Sainath S. Uskaikar’s “Guntata Hruday he (Entangled)” and Cannes Film Festival winner Chidananda Naik’s “Sunflowers were the First Ones to Know” will compete in the National Competition for Short Fiction Films. Additionally, Arindam Kishor Dutta’s “Kankhua” and Prasad Ramesh Bhujbal’s “Fear” will vie for top honors in the Animation and Short Fiction categories respectively, while Devesh Ranganath Kanase’s “Mhatara Dongar” will be showcased in the National Prism – Student Short Film Fiction category.
