Pune, 5th October 2026: Central Railway’s Pune Division has commissioned the Ghorpuri–Hadapsar 3rd Line, along with required alterations in the Route Relay Interlocking at Pune and the existing Electronic Interlocking at Hadapsar.

The newly commissioned line is expected to provide a dedicated transfer route between the rake maintenance depot and the proposed Hadapsar Satellite Terminal without affecting UP and DOWN main-line operations. This will facilitate rake movement and enable the commencement of new train services from Hadapsar.

The third line will also be used as an alternate shunting neck for rake formation, sorting, engine and brake-van reversal and other shunting activities. This will reduce the need for such operations on the main line and help minimise detention of trains.

As part of the project, 32 new or altered routes were executed at Pune, along with 11 new or altered tracks, nine signals, six point machines and 24 new or altered ICC towards Hadapsar. At Hadapsar, 28 new or altered routes, six signals and one point machine were provided. Alterations were also carried out in the existing KYOSAN K5D electronic interlocking system.

The works also included replacement of 140 auto-tensioning devices, insulated overlaps and section insulators, along with four DC track circuits. Around 900 metres of damaged contact wire was replaced, restoring the speed potential on the affected stretch from 75 kmph to 130 kmph.

New portals were erected and rusted portals were dismantled. AC brackets were also provided in turnout areas. Rail renewal, tamping, distressing, greasing, packing and welding works were carried out during the project.

The works were completed over a 15-day period using track-relaying equipment, Duomatic machines, Poclain machines, Hydras, JCBs and gas-cutting equipment. A total of 745 personnel, comprising 485 contractual workers and 260 departmental staff, were deployed for the work.

The commissioning of the Ghorpuri–Hadapsar 3rd Line provides an additional operational route for rake transfer and shunting activities and is intended to support decongestion of the Pune railway yard and smoother movement of passenger and freight trains.
