Pune: Govt Directs PMC to Submit Land Acquisition Proposal for HCMTR
Pune, 24th July 2026: The state government has directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to submit a proposal for acquiring land required for the proposed High Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR), paving the way for the long-pending mobility project.
PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said the state government has asked the civic body to identify and submit details of government-owned land required for the project as well as privately owned land that will have to be acquired.
The HCMTR is a proposed 36-km ring corridor aimed at improving east-west and north-south connectivity across Pune. According to the approved development plan, around 50 hectares of land will be required for the project, of which nearly 30 hectares are government-owned while the remaining 20 hectares belong to private landowners.
Officials said land under various government departments, including the irrigation department, revenue department and forest department, may be required for the project. The proposal will also include land acquisition for stretches passing through riverbeds and bridges.
The project, estimated to cost around Rs 10,000 crore, is expected to include road infrastructure, flyovers and bridges at multiple locations. It has remained stalled for several years due to changes in planning and delays in finalising the alignment.
The issue was recently discussed at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, where it was decided to prepare a unified implementation plan for the HCMTR project covering Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) area. Following the meeting, PMC prepared and submitted a preliminary project blueprint to the state government.
According to PMC officials, the state government’s latest direction to initiate the land acquisition process is expected to help remove one of the key hurdles delaying the ambitious urban transport project.
