Pune: Grade Separator Near Savitribai Phule Pune University Gets Green Light, Rs 30 Crore Saved
Shivajianagar, 12th April 2025: The proposed grade separator at Anand Rishiji Chowk near Savitribai Phule Pune University, a key traffic bottleneck on Ganeshkhind Road, received administrative approval during the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Estimate Committee meeting on Friday.
The grade separator is designed to ease traffic for vehicles heading from Senapati Bapat Road, with a revised alignment reducing its length and saving ₹30 crore in project costs.
According to PMC officials, the original plan began near the Government Polytechnic and did not include a direct connection to Senapati Bapat Road. However, following recommendations from the traffic department, the design has been modified to allow connectivity from Senapati Bapat Road, while also reducing the length of the structure by 300 meters.
Technical Details of the Project:
Route: From the India Meteorological Department side toward Aundh
Length: 210 meters
Width: 8 meters (2 lanes)
Estimated Cost: ₹70 crore
Completion Timeline: 2 years
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale chaired the Estimate Committee meeting where the revised proposal was approved. Officials confirmed that once the ongoing two-tier flyover at the same junction is completed, work on the grade separator will begin. The flyover is already nearing completion and is expected to significantly reduce congestion for traffic heading toward Pashan and Baner.
PMC stated that the grade separator will be constructed using new-age technology to ensure minimal disruption to traffic and residents during the execution phase. The civic body aims to complete the project well before the scheduled deadline.
This infrastructure development is part of a broader initiative by the PMC and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to decongest key roads in the city and improve traffic flow across major corridors.
