Pune: Gunshots Fired by Intoxicated Friends in Wagholi as Ambulance Takes Man to Rehab
Wagholi, 13th December 2024: A case has been registered against three individuals for firing gunshots in Pune’s Wagholi area last night. The incident occurred when an individual was being transported to an alcohol rehabilitation centre, prompting his intoxicated friends to angrily fire shots at the ambulance using a licensed pistol. The accused also threw stones at the vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The ambulance driver, Sudhakar Arun Kanade (35, resident of Katraj), filed a complaint with the Wagholi Police Station. The accused have been identified as Vishal Ramdas Kolte (resident of Bakori), Sandeep Kailas Hargude (resident of Kesnand), and Amol Hargude (resident of Kesnand).
According to police reports, the three accused were drinking beer at a restaurant in Bakori Phata, Wagholi. When ambulance driver Kanade arrived to take Sandeep Hargude to an alcohol rehabilitation centre in Loni Kalbhor, Sandeep pleaded with his friends Vishal and Amol to stop the ambulance. Vishal fired two shots at the vehicle using his licensed pistol, while Vishal and Amol threw stones to block the ambulance.
Upon receiving information, Wagholi Police Station officials, led by Senior Police Inspector Pandit Rejitwad, visited the scene and detained the accused. Police recovered a revolver, 16 live cartridges, two empty cartridges, a Mahindra Thar, and another car, all of which were seized during the investigation.
Sandeep’s family had sent him to the rehabilitation centre to address his alcohol addiction. However, he had escaped twice before. After he resumed drinking and disturbed his family, his wife called the rehabilitation centre staff to take him back. When they arrived, the three intoxicated men resisted violently, opening fire and shouting. The Wagholi Police are continuing the investigation.
