Pune: Heavy Rainfall Hits Lonavala, Records 136 mm in 24 Hours
Lonavala, 2nd July 2024: The popular tourist destination of Lonavala has recorded 136 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, surpassing the previous highest recorded on 12th June this year. Located equidistant from Mumbai and Pune, Lonavala draws large crowds seeking weekend and holiday getaways from the bustling cities.
Continuous rainfall has pounded Lonavala in Pune district, totaling 798 mm this year. Rivers and streams are overflowing, including the iconic Bhushi Dam, which has become a focal point for visitors. The Sahyadri mountain range is draped in verdant greenery, adorned with numerous waterfalls cascading through its valleys.
Weekend crowds have strained traffic management in Lonavala, prompting authorities to issue cautions to tourists. This advisory follows a tragic incident on Sunday, 30th June, when a family of five from Hadapsar in Pune was swept away in the swollen Bhushi Dam, their bodies recovered later in the day.
