Hadapsar, 18th August 2025: Heavy rainfall on Monday once again exposed the poor drainage system on Chintamani Nagar–Handewadi Road in Hadapsar, leaving the entire stretch waterlogged and commuters struggling to pass through.

Residents and daily commuters said this has become a recurring problem. “Every time there is heavy rainfall, the road turns into a small river. Many two-wheelers and even four-wheelers stop working in the middle of the water. It is impossible to ride a bike or drive a car without risking damage,” said one local resident, frustrated with the situation.

This year, the problem has only worsened due to continuous heavy showers during the monsoon season. Large pools of stagnant water remain on the road for hours, blocking traffic and making it difficult for pedestrians and shopkeepers to carry out their daily activities.

Citizens allege that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has failed to take any preventive measures despite repeated complaints. They point out that pre-monsoon desilting of drainage lines was either incomplete or ineffective, as the roads flood every time it rains heavily. “PMC promises before the rains that the city is ready, but Hadapsar roads prove otherwise. The authorities have done little to resolve this issue,” another resident remarked.

Apart from traffic disruption, waterlogging has also raised safety concerns. Motorcyclists risk accidents when navigating through deep waters, while cars frequently break down, adding to the chaos.

Local residents have demanded immediate action from PMC, urging the civic body to strengthen the drainage system in Chintamani Nagar and ensure regular cleaning of nullahs and stormwater drains. They warn that if no permanent solution is implemented, the area will continue to suffer the same fate every monsoon season.
