Pune: Hinjawadi to Get 6 New Parallel Roads, 60 km Drainage Network Under Infrastructure Push
Pune, 3rd September 2026: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar has directed officials to prepare a concrete action plan and ensure time-bound implementation to address long-pending civic and infrastructure issues in Hinjawadi, including roads, traffic congestion, water supply, electricity, waste management and metro connectivity.
Pawar also directed authorities to constitute a special ‘task force’ for Hinjawadi, on the lines of the mechanism used in Chakan, to improve coordination among the multiple agencies working in the rapidly growing IT hub.
She issued the directions during a review meeting held to discuss civic and infrastructure issues in the Hinjawadi-Maan-Marunji area and the major demands of local residents.
“Hinjawadi is an important contributor to Maharashtra’s economy and revenue. Issues that have remained pending for several years now require concrete and immediate action,” Pawar said.
She said agencies including the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune Metro, Public Works Department, Mahavitaran and local gram panchayats are operating in the area, making effective coordination essential.
Pawar directed the departments concerned to prepare a blueprint of their respective works and begin implementation immediately. Weekly coordination meetings involving all relevant agencies will be held to monitor issues related to roads, metro works, traffic congestion, waste management, water supply and electricity.
She also directed authorities to take immediate measures to ease traffic congestion, including increasing police manpower, installing CCTV cameras and implementing other necessary traffic-management measures.
Rs 426 crore development plan
Pawar said the PMRDA has prepared a development plan worth around ₹426 crore keeping in mind the future requirements of the Hinjewadi area. She said efforts would be made to request Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to convene a meeting at the earliest to expedite implementation of the plan.
PMRDA Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhary and Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi made presentations on the area’s future development and measures proposed to address its civic and infrastructure problems.
Dudi said around 5 to 6 lakh people travel to and from Hinjewadi every day, while the limited number of entry and exit routes contributes significantly to traffic congestion.
Among the immediate measures proposed to ease congestion are deployment of 100 Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) personnel, restrictions on heavy vehicles during peak hours and changes, where necessary, in the working hours of IT companies.
The administration has also planned measures to fill potholes on roads in the area.
Drainage, footpaths and streetlights
According to the district administration’s plan, around 60 km of drainage network, along with footpaths and streetlights, is proposed to be developed over the next one-and-a-half years.
A proposal has also been made for gram
panchayats to collect waste from the area and send it to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation for processing.
On the water shortage issue, Dudi proposed supplying water from Pawna Dam through a Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) scheme. It was stated at the meeting that a meeting at the state government level would be held to implement decisions taken at an earlier meeting and arrive at a favourable solution.
Six parallel roads planned
PMRDA Commissioner Chaudhary said six new parallel roads have been planned to reduce traffic pressure at Bhujbal, Laxmi and Hinjewadi junctions. The land acquisition process for these roads has already begun, he said.
He also provided details of a ₹426-crore last-mile connectivity project aimed at providing easier transport for employees travelling between metro stations and the IT Park.
The first 12 metro stations have received approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), and metro services are expected to commence soon, according to the presentation.
Pawar also emphasised the role of local residents and IT companies in addressing the area’s problems, urging them to coordinate with the administration and contribute to Hinjewadi’s development.
MLA Shankar Mandekar raised various issues concerning the Hinjewadi area during the meeting. Local residents and IT employees also highlighted their difficulties and demands. Pawar assured them that the government would work to resolve the issues on priority.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister’s Secretary Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, Divisional Commissioner Sheetal Teli-Ugle, Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, PCMC Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi, PMRDA Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhary, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil, PMPML Managing Director Mahesh Awhad, senior officials from various departments, local residents and representatives of companies operating in the Hinjawadi area.
